Conquest in Gulfport

Carnival Cruise Lines Conquest was diverted to its backup port of Gulfport on March 9, 2003 because of high water and low power lines on the Mississippi River at New Orleans. Gulfport will be its homeport for at least six weeks. The Conquest is one of the world's largest ships at 110,000 tons in weight. It is 952 feet long and it is 207 feet tall from the waterline and it has a beam of 116 feet. The engines produce 84,933 horsepower. It can travel at 22.5 knots. It has a crew of 1,160 and can accomadate 2,974 passengers. It cost about 500 million dollars to build.
