Cotton Modules

For over ten years I had not been to the land defined by the lobby of the Peabody Hotel in Memphis and Catfish Row in Vicksburg. My memory was of Saul Haymond's depiction of cotton trailers. Things change. The Mississippi Delta landscape east of Leland now includes cotton modules, rail-car-size compresses, each containing sixteen bales or 24,000 pounds of fiber. These repository devices allow the mechanical pickers to operate without regard for ginning capacity.
