| "Old Abe", a bald eagle that flew over siege lines as mascot of the 8th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment, is perched on a bronze ball atop a granite column. Affixed to the granite wall at the base of this 122 1/2-foot high monument is a listing of Wisconsin sons who fought in the Vicksburg campaign. |
